War of Nerfs!"War of Nerfs! Jawohl!-But the British Haf no Nerfs!"
Signed, "Arthur Szyk New York 1941 ". Here Szyk satirizes a disgruntled Hitler who is gathered around the table with two of his favorite cronies. Josef Goebbels, the Nazi Minister of Propaganda is speaking animatedly while the well-proportioned Hermann Goering, recently appointed Reichs-Marschall (marshal of the empire) and the Furher listen, "War of nerfs! [nerves] Jawohl! [Yes!]" says Goebbels. "But the British haf [have] no nerfs! " Before them on the table rests a bottle of Vichy water- symbolic of the Nazi controlled, compliant, Vichy French government.

The arrogance of the trio is great sport for Szyk's pen. He portrays their over-inflated confidence in its true light. How brazen to believe the British will fall as easily as the French! No nerves? Did it not take nerves of solid steel to survive the bombs falling nightly on London and not give up?
