Hillel the Sage

Hillel, the talmudic sage and teacher is shown with the Torah scroll open before him. Inscribed on it in Hebrew text are the words "And you should love your neighbor as yourself". Two fellow Jews look on from a short distance as a Roman soldier observes the study of Jewish law. A legend has it that a Persian once came to Hillel and asked, "Teach me the entire Torah while I stand on one foot." Rather than dismiss the man for mocking Hillel and Jewish tradition, Hillel responded: "Love your neighbor as yourself, all the rest is commentary."
